Meet The Team

I began my umpiring career in 2007, back when we wore shorts and our shin guards with high knee socks. I'm a shining example of the old adage we all are used to hearing "go do the game with Will, and he will show you where to stand". I started to get serious after a few years and attended my first Mid-Tenn camp in 2011. 

I instantly got into umpiring TSSAA Middle School the following year, and worked 5 years of baseball before doing a small stint at the girls fast pitch level for TSSAA as well. After 4 years of doing both, and continuing to come to camps to further my skill, I was able to get into the Mid-South Conference in 2014 and that is where I switched back to baseball full time. I worked at the college level for 5 years, working in MSUA, South Atlantic, and Gulf South conferences before stepping away when my beautiful wife gave birth to our son, who is now 7.

I was honored when Jeff Duke asked me to be an instructor in 2017, and after a few short years, and some assigning experience under my belt, he passed the camp over to myself and Evan. Since then we have tried to continue to build and keep what he and Mark built all those years ago alive and well, while advancing into the modern age using technology at our disposal to provide things no camps that I had ever been too back in my run had then.

Writing a bio about yourself is funny because you are obviously wanting everyone who reads this to know you are somewhat qualified to be teaching them what they want to learn but I can honestly say there is not one guy on this page who cares about their accolades more than being here and giving back and teaching you how to become the best umpire you want to become. Yes, they deserve recognition for the achievements they have accrued whether it is getting into their first D1 conference or starting at the JUCO level and working their way up, and getting high level postseason assignments, but there was a lot of missed family time, money spent, time, and effort devoted earning those accolades. Now they get to come to this camp and yes I say "get to", and give that all back to you guys the knowledge they have gained.

I have worked college baseball since 1990. I have worked in multiple conferences and local associations through these years. Conferences include SEC, SUNBELT, OVC, ASUN, AAC, CUSA and the Missouri Valley.

I have worked 11 conference baseball tournaments in OVC, SUNBELT and CUSA. I currently work in SUNBELT, OVC, ASUN and Missouri Valley.  

I have instructed for many years at numerous umpire camps, including 4+ years at the Mid-tenn Camp.

Ben Wood is an alum of this camp. He was a member of the 1st class of campers that attended in its very first year, 2010. He returned to this camp 3 more years before being added to the Mid-South Collegiate Umpires Association in 2013. 

After a couple initial years of Junior College baseball Ben was added to the South Atlantic Conference (D-II) in the 2016 season and worked the Conference tournament in his first year in the conference. Ben was added to his 1st D-I conference the following year in 2017 when he was added to the Ohio Valley Conference roster. Since then Ben has continued to increase his D-I schedule being added to the ASUN and Missouri Valley as well as the SEC Non-Conference roster. Ben was selected to work the 2026 OVC Tournament.

“I owe my entire umpiring career to the Mid-Tenn Camp. Without the foundation built here, there’s no way I’d be umpiring college baseball at the D-I level.”

Peter began his umpiring career in 2012 with his local high school association and immediately developed a passion for the craft. After being named the Most Outstanding Student at Southern Umpires Camp in 2014, he moved into the collegiate ranks.

In 2018, he attended the Wendelstedt Umpire School, where he received the Lee Weyer Award—an honor voted on by his peers for the umpire they would most want to take the field with. He qualified for placement into professional baseball and worked a season in the Coastal Plains League under MiLB Umpire Development.

In 2026, Peter worked in the Sun Belt, Atlantic Sun, and Southern conferences, while also working his first career non-conference weekend in the SEC.

While Peter loves working the big games as much as anyone, he has a true passion for instructing and helping younger umpires gain more confidence in their work.

David began his umpiring career in 2011 and attended the Mid-Tenn camp in 2012. He returned to camp in 2013, 2014, and 2015. He then attended Wendelstedt Umpire School in 2016 and was selected to move onto the Minor League Baseball Advanced  Course. 

He worked the Coastal Plains League in 2016 and 2017. In 2017 he was added to the MSUA roster and began his collegiate career. He currently works collegiate baseball and is part of the  Atlantic Sun, American Athletic Conference, Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley Conference and SEC Non-Conference rosters. David has been selected to work the 2026 JUCO World Series.

Brett’s journey in officiating started in 2010 when he joined Murfreesboro Baseball and Softball Association as an umpire. In January 2011, he enrolled in and completed the Professional Umpire Course at the Wendelstedt Umpire School. While not selected for a position in professional baseball this did boost Brett’s career in officiating. After returning from Umpire School, Brett began his HS career in baseball in the spring of 2011 and registered for volleyball in Fall 2011. He added basketball as his 3rd Sport in 2012.

Brett has 16 years of baseball umpire experience, 14 years of basketball referee experience, and 16 years of volleyball referee experience. He has previous assigning and supervising experience in travel baseball as well as currently the assigner for Southwest Volleyball Association for TSSAA. He has worked the sectional level of all HS sports in TN. Listed below are some of Brett’s major accomplishments across all sports.

Brett brings a love for teaching the craft of officiating and an unparalleled rules knowledge. He has served as a mentor and evaluator in all sports. He has a true love of sports and that is evidenced in his teaching and evaluating, no matter the level.

Evan Wilson is an alum of this camp and a 5 time attendee. Evan has worked at levels ranging from the local rec park to the NCAA baseball field. He attended this camp first in

2011 and began umpiring for the local rec league that fall. 

After a few more trips to the camp and attending the Wendlesteldt Umpire School he then went on to work at NCAA level ranging from Division 1 to JUCO.

Although he plans to return to umpiring, he has temporarily had to step away from umpiring with a new position as his day job but loves to stay involved teaching and instructing the newest umpires and sharing his experiences on the field.

Tommy (Cepp) has been umpiring college baseball for over 15 years. He currently works in the ACC, CUSA, SWAC, Big South, and Missouri Valley Conferences. He has been selected to 2 Big South Tournaments and 2 Conference USA Tournaments as well as 2026 NCAA Gainesville Regional.

Outside of umpiring, Cepp is an assistant professor of Criminal Justice at Jackson State Community College. His hobbies include fitness and golf.

Cepp truly loves giving back to umpires and helping them get better and advance in their careers.

From the time I first stepped onto a baseball field as an umpire in 2006 working Babe Ruth League games, I knew the profession was something I wanted to pursue seriously. What started as a way to stay involved in the game quickly turned into a lifelong passion and career built on hard work, consistency, and learning from every opportunity I was given.

Between 2007 and 2011, I worked high school baseball and continued developing my mechanics, game management, and confidence on the field. In 2011, I attended the Mid-South Umpires Association camp, which became a major turning point in my career. After the camp, I was selected to join the association’s staff group, opening the door to higher levels of college baseball.

By 2012, I began working JUCO baseball along with games in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference at the Division II level. The following year, I advanced into the Mid-South Conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where I continued building experience and earning postseason opportunities.

In both 2014 and 2015, I was selected to work the Mid-South Conference Tournament, which was a huge honor and recognition of the work I had put in. I was later selected to work National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Regionals in 2016 and 2017, allowing me to officiate some of the top teams and players in NAIA baseball.

The 2017 season marked another major milestone in my career when I received opportunities in Division I baseball. I began working games in the Ohio Valley Conference, ASUN Conference, Big South Conference, along with non-conference assignments involving the Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference.

In 2025, I reached another career milestone when I worked my first Division I postseason tournament at the Big South Baseball Championship. That opportunity represented years of commitment and growth within college baseball.

Today, I continue working Division I baseball across several conferences, including the Big South Conference, Ohio Valley Conference, ASUN Conference, Southern Conference, Conference USA, and American Athletic Conference, while also continuing non-conference work involving the Sun Belt Conference and Southeastern Conference. Every season continues to bring new experiences, challenges, and opportunities to improve while staying connected to the game I have loved for years.

One thing that consistently helped my career progress was attending multiple umpire camps every year. Those camps not only improved my mechanics and professionalism, but also allowed me to network, learn from experienced supervisors, and continue sharpening every part of my game. Even without attending professional umpire school, I continued working my way up through dedication, repetition, and experience on the field.

Bailey is an experienced baseball umpire with 10 years of officiating at both the professional and collegiate levels.

Alex has been umpiring at the middle school and high school level for 15 years, building a reputation as a dedicated and knowledgeable official. Through this hard work and dedication, he has been selected to work the 2026 TSSAA State Baseball Championships

He began his career by attending the Mid-Tenn Camp with his dad during our early years in 2011. Over the years, Alex also had the opportunity to work at the collegiate level, logging two seasons across JUCO, NAIA, and Division II baseball — experience that sharpened his skills and deepened his appreciation for the game. 

Outside of calling games, Alex has a real passion for helping newer umpires develop. He's always exploring ways to incorporate technology into training and development, making it easier for officials just starting out to learn the and grow in the craft he loves.

A graduate of professional umpire school, I currently work the field at multiple levels of competition — including high school, junior college, Division II, and Division I fill-in assignments. Each level brings its own pace and nuance, and I take pride in being prepared and consistent no matter where I'm needed.

Beyond the diamond, I bring a solid professional background rooted in Corporate America, where I developed strong project management skills that translate naturally into the structure and discipline umpiring demands. I've also had the privilege of giving back to the craft by helping design and run training camps for newer and less experienced umpires — work I find genuinely rewarding.

Whether I'm behind the plate or on the bases, I approach every game the same way: prepared, focused, and ready to help the game be played the right way.
